A high-level delegation from Jordan, led by the Secretary-General of Jordan’s Ministry of Investment, Zaher Al Qatarneh, met India's Textiles Secretary, Neelam Shami Rao, in New Delhi. The dialogue focused on unlocking new avenues for bilateral trade, sourcing, and strategic investments within the textiles and apparel manufacturing ecosystem.
- Expanding Trade & Joint Ventures: Both sides explored extensive opportunities for sourcing and cross-border investments, laying the groundwork for potential Joint Ventures (JVs) between Indian and Jordanian textile enterprises.
- Focus on High-Value Segments: The Indian delegation highlighted the immense potential for enhanced cooperation in specialized sectors such as technical textiles, apparels, premium fabrics, cotton textiles, and made-ups.
- Institutional & Knowledge Partnerships: The meeting emphasized academic collaboration between leading fashion and design institutes in both countries. This includes student and faculty exchange programs to foster cross-cultural design innovation.
- AI in Fashion: In a forward-looking move, the nations discussed technological cooperation specifically targeting AI-enabled fashion forecasting to modernize production cycles and meet evolving global consumer demands.
Reinvigorating institutional mechanisms with Jordan provides the Indian textile industry a strategic gateway into the broader Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) markets. Integrating advanced capabilities like AI forecasting and technical textiles aligns perfectly with India's objective to move up the global textile value chain and boost labor-intensive manufacturing exports.
